Privacy policy
Last updated: 5 October 2026. This policy covers Puzlr Quiz Night (the apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Android and Fire TV) and the website puzlrquiznight.com.
Who we are
Puzlr Quiz Night is run by Mark Fensom, a sole trader, 2 Astley Road, Clacton on Sea, Essex, CO15 3EH, United Kingdom. For anything about your data, write to [email protected]. We are the controller of the data described here under UK data protection law.
The short version
- We do not run adverts and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- Players do not need an account. A player chooses a nickname and a colour.
- We do not receive your card or payment details. Purchases are handled by Apple, Google or Amazon.
What we collect, and why
| Who | What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Players (people who join a quiz in a browser or app) | The nickname and colour they choose, their answers and scores during a quiz, and a random token stored in their browser so they can rejoin if their connection drops | To run the quiz | Deleted within an hour of the quiz ending. The token stays in the player's own browser until they clear it. |
| Hosts (people who run a quiz from the app) | A random install identifier created by the app, the list of questions that install has recently been asked (up to 2,000), how many free quizzes it has used, and when it was last used | To avoid repeating questions, to count the five free quizzes, and to prevent abuse of the service | While the app is in use, and deleted after 12 months without use |
| Subscribers | The signed subscription receipt that Apple (or Google or Amazon) gives the app, which we check to see that a subscription is active. It shows the product, dates and a transaction number, not your name or card. We also record which install identifiers (up to five) have used each subscription, against its transaction number. | To switch on unlimited hosting, and to stop one subscription being shared with many devices | We keep the check result for as long as the subscription is active and for up to 12 months after for accounting and disputes |
| Hosts (abuse limits) | For each day, how many new installs and how many quiz questions came from one network address. We do not store the address itself: it is turned into a short scrambled code (a salted, truncated hash) that is different every day and cannot be turned back into the address. | To stop the free quizzes being claimed over and over, while allowing several hosts on one network | Deleted after two days |
| Everyone | Technical logs kept by our hosting provider, Cloudflare: network address, time and the page or service requested | To keep the service secure and working | As set by Cloudflare, normally a few weeks |
Children
Quiz Night is a family game. Players can be any age because they only give a nickname, which the host can rename or remove. We do not knowingly ask children for personal information and nothing a child enters is used for advertising or profiling. Hosts, who control the quiz, should be adults.
Who we share data with
We use Cloudflare to run the service, and the stores (Apple, Google, Amazon) to handle purchases. We do not sell data or share it for advertising. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
Where it is processed
Cloudflare runs servers around the world, so data may be processed outside the UK. Where it is, the transfer is covered by Cloudflare's data protection terms.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete data we hold about you, to object to its use, or to complain. Because we hold only random identifiers, we may need the install identifier from the app to find your data. Write to [email protected]. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, for big changes, tell you in the app.
